To celebrate the release today of Termites’ debut album we’re proud to share this video of album track ‘Dumb Rock’. And whilst were at it here’s a reminder of a recent review of the self-titled album from Venue Magazine:

“Oh, YES! It fizzes, bucks, weaves, bounces, is whip-crack clever and big-chorus dumb, as many ideas flowing in each song as streams from the rose of a watering can, and just as fertile. Light and swift on its feet as a tumbling gymnast, it’s hooked-first-time sing-along pop and multi-listen art, crashing genres into each other like a musical Hadron collider, just to see what happens. Hugely English, a kind of Bonzo Dog Blur Marr Band, with Supergrass urgency, early Roxy playfulness and the songwriting sass of Ray Davies. Summarise this in 100 words? Like Kevin Rowland said, you must be fucking joking. So here’s just one: astonishing.”

Termites self-titled debut album OUT TODAY!

Hot on the heels of the ‘Clockwork Meat’ single in February and the BBC 6Music endorsed teaser track ‘Ammo’, today the 14^th May 2012 finally sees the release of Termites’ self-titled and self-produced debut album. The eclectic outfit spent the last two years creating their record before putting it in the safe and respected hands of Shellac’s Bob Weston for mastering.

Hailing from the ancient city of Bristol, Termites have ventured out from their basement studio to support the likes of The Vaccines, British Sea Power and The Young Knives. The four piece’s tightly honed stagecraft is breathtaking; an experience full of contrast, energy and life. Musically, they are distantly related to Blur, XTC, Joe Meek and other English members of the Arts and Crafts movement, with a dash of the Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Wicker Man thrown in for good measure.

The 10-track album is released worldwide via all the usual digital platforms as well as the Sink & Stove Digital Store. You can grab ‘Ammo’ and ‘Dumb Rock’ as free mp3s from the Sink & Stove Soundcloud and the ‘Clockwork Meat’ single is available with an exclusive b-side.

With an ‘In Rainbows’ bare-faced simplicity it ticks over with confidence, distortion in the back pocket for some really notable lifts.”

“Led by thumping bass hooks, chafing guitar figures and some Debbie Harry-worshipping insouciance, glam-y, knife-edged post-punkers Island Audio set out their throbbing disco-grind stall simultaneously referencing New Order, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Blondie, with ethereal flights into shoe-gazing territory.
